Festschrift Films is an independent motion picture production company devoted to the art of storytelling through cinema. We offer a complete range of services—from script development and pre-production to production and post-production—crafted to bring each story to life with vision and precision.
The name “Festschrift”—a German word also embraced in English—means “a collection of writings published in honour of a scholar or writer.” Its literal roots, “feast-script,” beautifully mirror our creative spirit: a celebration of ideas, imagination, and the written word.

FOUNDER
Freddie Lau is an independent filmmaker based in Toronto and the founder of Festschrift Films. Trained in both Art Studies & Critical Theory in China and Film Production in Canada, Freddie’s work bridges cultures, blending thoughtful narrative with cinematic precision.
Before founding Festschrift Films, he honed his craft on a variety of film and television sets, where he learned the art of storytelling from the ground up. His experience behind the camera shaped a deep respect for the collaboration, rhythm, and emotion that bring a story to life.
Freddie’s film projects have been selected by international film festivals around the world, reflecting his commitment to stories that move across borders and speak to shared human experiences. With his team at Festschrift Films, he continues to create films and commercials rooted in narrative, craft, and authenticity.
Having lived extensively in both China and Canada, Freddie is especially passionate about co-productions that connect East Asia and North America — building creative bridges through the language of cinema.
